Steel weight calculator
Estimate the weight of plate, bar, hollow sections, beams and channels, and build a cut list you can send to us for pricing.
Build a cut list
Pick a section, enter its size and length, and add it to the list. The total updates as you go, in kilograms and tonnes.
Beams, columns and channels use the standard Australian sizes.
How the weights are worked out
Plate, bar and hollow sections are calculated from their dimensions at 7,850 kg/m³, the density of carbon steel. Hollow sections ignore the corner radii, so they read slightly heavy.
Universal beams, universal columns and parallel flange channels use the mass per metre published by InfraBuild for each size.
