Ventilation leakage cost calculator

Put a yearly dollar figure on the air leaking through your stoppings, doors and regulators, using your own survey figures and power price.

Price your leakage

Add each leaking device with its leakage flow and the pressure across it, from a ventilation survey or your best estimate. Then enter your main fan efficiency, running hours and power price.

The calculator totals the extra fan power and what it costs you each year and over ten years.

How the cost is worked out

Air power lost through a device is the leakage flow multiplied by the pressure difference: 1 m³/s leaking across 1,000 Pa wastes 1 kW of air power. The main fan draws that power divided by its efficiency, every hour it runs.

Every figure comes from you, and we don’t assume a leakage rate for any device. To replace a leaking door, regulator or seal, send us the list and we’ll quote engineer-certified devices built in Tomago.
